Frost free faucet leaking inside wall when faucet on
Author: Siggy1 (WI)

When turning on the outdoor frost free faucet, I have leaking inside the wall. Trying to DIY, I noticed the faucet housing turns continuously in either direction. Is that telling me the pipe was likely soldered together and has come loose or cracked? I didn't want to pull too hard on it damaging something else. I was hoping to avoid taking apart the basement ceiling.

Install an access panel - you should have one anyway.

That is wierd, usually the body of the frost free faucet splits from it not having been drained properly. That would not make the faucet itself loose. You don't have a choice but to open up the basement ceiling.

The continuous turning of the faucet housing suggests that the connection between the faucet and the pipe behind the wall may have come loose or is broken.
Another possibility is that the pipe itself may be cracked or damaged, leading to the leak.
