 American Standard Tilt Disc Mechanism
Author: george 7941 (Canada)

Is there a non-messy way to remove an old deteriorated black disc? It leaves black residue on everything it touches.
I first remove the assembly from the tank and lay it on a sheet of paper. The disc does not just pull off the ball on the actuator, I have snapped the ball end off doing that. What I end up doing is making cuts on the rubber, to weaken it, where it fits on the ball, drop some dish soap into the disc and eventually work it off.

Then there is the real issue of snapping off the old plastic ears on the flush valve which holds the actuator. I am always concerned when I remove or install the actuator.

Just as serious can be snapping off the "fin" that stops the tilting movement. When that happens, the unit tilts "over center" and will not drop closed.
