 Clear water filter housing?
Author: loop1 (MD)

I plan to install a 4.5 x 10 inch filter for my well water and prefer a transparent housing so I can judge when to change the filter. I have read that transparent housings are less strong than those that are not transparent. One source said the housing should be replaced after a few years, and another said pressure be kept below 50 psi.

Any thoughts/warnings/recommendations will be appreciated.

What I seen is that most manufactures recommend the clear housings be replaced every 5 years and solid color housings every 10 years. One manufacture wants all housings replaced every 2 years.

In my neck of the woods filters with clear housings look like the filter should be replaced within a couple of weeks after being installed.

Most people just replace them about every 6 months to 12 months or noticeable pressure drop ----whichever occurs first.
