OK, so I have a question about the rough in for my summer kitchen. When we built the house, I had them rough in for water and sewer. Here's a picture of it. They painted all over it. So what do you suppose I do: cut off the caps, sand off the paint on the pvc and that should be good to, or should I do something else? Also, I assume that simple compression valves should be good for the water lines right? Thanks.

Are the water supply pipes "PVC" or "CPVC"? Yes, cut the caps and sand off the paint.

according to my neighbors, they believe it to be CPVC

So should I use Sharkbite valves or valves that you glue on?

glue male adapters onto the pipe and screw female ended valves onto the adapters.

take a piece of sandpaper, or a razor blade, remove some paint.

if the underlying pipe is metallic and shiny it's copper.

if the color is almond it's CPVC.

if the color is white, it's PVC and it needs to be replaced.

if the color is gray it's PVC electrical conduit and not good.
