Water line height for washing machines
Author: LD (FL)

I am going to move the washing machine lines and drain. I need them to be hid but accessible. My handyman has suggested moving the drain down only around 8 inches but attaching the hot and cold water lines to the water lines under the utility sink. I need to know if this would be to code. I live in Florida. I am going to install a long countertop with a backsplash and don't want the lines visible. Any input would be appreciated. LD

Permit and Plumber required.

Your 'handyman' is wrong on BOTH counts.

if you are talking about cutting 8 inches off the standpipe, i don't see anything wrong with that.. as long as the draining water doesn't back up because the stand pipe is too short.
as for putting tees under the sink with one port going to the faucet and one port for a hose valve, that's fine too.

I have measured the drain and it would be to code. What are you saying about the water lines? Can you clarify? Thank you again. LD

Thank you for your response. I just wasn't sure about the water lines. I know the drain has to be within a certain height. Just wasn't sure about the lines. LD

How are you going to tell about moving that heavy washer dryer set just to shut off the water because the hose has burst in the future

There is a washer box that can be installed above the counter and leaves the shot off valves easily accessible

Aesthetics are one thing common sense is another

i believe the valves will be accessable under the sink.
