Washing Machine Inlet Valve Screen Clog
Author: Bnbrklyn17 (NY)

Hi! We live in Brooklyn, NY and just had some work done on our house. Part of that work included moving the water pipes that lead from the main water valve to our house water filtration system.

Since that occurred, every weekend we have to clean out the cold water intake screen on our washing machine. It gets clogged with what is seemingly a silicone based granular substance. We believe that the pipe that leads to the washing machine does NOT run through the house’s water filtration system.

We are trying to figure out what this substance could be and how we can fix the recurring issue. Any help or advice is welcome! Thank you!

No—we have lived in this house for 6 years and never had to clean out the inlet valve screen… now it is every weekend at some point while I do laundry. The hot is always clear and the cold has this substance build up.
