 Hot water recirculation loop
Author: Billhoff99 (PA)

Hi everyone, I'm in the process of building a custom home and the plumbing contractor is running a hot water recirculation loop but instead of running a 3/4-in line past every fixture he is running a 3/4 inch supply and teeing off with half inch lines to every fixture and then returning those half inch lines to another three quarter inch return line. He is saying that this will pull from every fixture but it seems like there are multiple paths for return and that the hot water will short circuit and not make it to every fixture equally, Some of the half inch lines are long and some are short that run back to the 3/4 supply and return. I hope this makes sense, any input would be much appreciated,

I would install a balancing valve on each of those paths between the hot and return. This will allow you to adjust the flow in each branch.

It sounds like he is more used to a 2 pipe heating system that a plumbing one. You would probably have a multitude of problems and would NEVER be able to diagnose or cure them.

Tom is correct
A balancing valve should be installed on each branch off the recirc line for adjustment

This method is a little absurd and costly

A single loop would work just as well

single loop..
the tee for the return is usually placed between the last and second last branches.
