I'm hooking up a garbage disposal that has a hookup for dishwasher. Can I hookup a portable washer instead?

the piece sticking out of the side of the disposer that is meant to attach a dishwasher drain hose to, has a factory sealled plug inside it. no need to worry about water spilling out the side of the disposer, it won't.

That plug needs to be knocked out using a flat screwdriver and hammer.

is it truly used as a portable like you roll in over when you use it and roll it out of the way when not in use, it's much easier just to stick the DW discharge hose into the sink drain and not connect disconnect all the time.

I agree with sum let it drain into the sink, unless it will not be moved often

If it is a true portable, the supply and drain hoses will be connected to a co-axial quick-connect fitting that attaches to the faucet spout.
