Hello everyone, New guy here and first post.
I moved into my first house not long ago but is very far from new.
My question for someone has to do with my shower on the second floor. Guaranteed every time I shower I start off with my desired warm-hot water, about 6 or so minutes the water turns completely ice cold, I’ve tried moving the dial hotter, tried leaving it the same even turning it down to possibly lukewarm but nothing works. My only option is to stand in the back fully lathered and shiver for at least 3-5 minutes until it starts getting warm again.
This only happens in my shower. All my faucets don’t do that ever. I have one in a tiny bathroom first floor, my kitchen sink on the second floor and even in my bathroom that has the shower there’s a his & her sinks and not one of them changes cold at all.
My furnace is fine, the hot water tank in basement is fairly new and I’m the only person who lives there so there’s zero hot water being used up beforehand.
I can deal in summer but when I work outside all day in the freezing cold the only thing I want is a warm shower. I can’t deal & am close to taking sledgehammer and taking it out on the tile so I can get to the pipe but I’ve been told that cooler heads prevail so can anyone give me some advice on this. The only thing that I’ve heard is that the inner workings of the dial that switches it hot to cold are switches shower or tub gets rotted out on the inside of the wall but I don’t know about inner workings.
I do utilities in the street and underground nothing inside.
I’d be a much happier man with his home than I am now.
If anyone can help point me in the right direction that would be HUGE.

If it’s a single handle valve it’s most likely the mixing cartridge gone bad
Post a pic and we may be able to identify the manufacturer

when the shower turns cold, leave it running cold and open another faucet.
does that faucet run hot?
trying to find out if the problem is with the shower valve only or with the heater/piping.
