 special 2-1/2X2 PVC fitting
Author: sum (FL)

I need a fitting but I am not sure one exists or what it is called.

It is for a pressure application (pool plumbing).

It is a 2-1/2" X 2" PVC fitting.

On the 2-1/2" side it needs to connect to a 2-1/2" PVC pipe. So it is a 2-1/2" female slip end.

On the 2" side it needs to connect to 2" male threads. So it is a 2" FIP end.

It needs to be super "compact" because I have to achieve this in a short distance.

It may be done in two pieces by using a 2-1/2" coupling, and into the coupling a reducer bushing with a 2" FIP connection. That may also work.

Does such a fitting exist?

Sum, google "429-292S".

Edit - I missed the 2" FPT mention. The fitting I referenced is slip x slip.

sum, there seems to be no trouble finding a 2 1/2 inch female adapter and a 2 1/2 x 2 pvc threaded bushing

Packy, yes that would be a plan C but I am trying to avoid that threaded connection. The whole reason to needing this contraption is to avoid the current threaded connection at the pump which vibrates 24/7 and leaks occasionally so I can use a special pump rated high temperature union. Instead of sealing with a threaded connection MIP/FIP, it seals with a compression male with a gasket into the FIP end and that's what others are using to avoid the occasional leak. For this reason I need a 2.5 slip X 2 FIP fitting, the FIP end is to receive the male end of a high temp compression union's male end. To make such a fitting with a M and F threaded together would negate the intent completely.

This is a picture of the high temp pump union I am getting. The end threads into the FIP end and seals with compression. If a leak develops you just tighten the nut or take it apart and replace the gasket or coat it with silicone grease. If a normal threaded connection leaks, you have to take the whole thing apart and if an elbow is right after you have to redo everything, unless you plumb in a regular union on each end of the pipe but those unions are much more bulky and doesn't work with tightly spaced pool lines.

the pic you posted has a MALE IP end

your post said you need a FEMALE IP end

if the pump has female IP threads the posted fitting is PERFECT for your application

He needs the new adapter to be female, so this male union can be used.

Why not a 2 1/2" coupling and 2 1/2" slip x 2" fip bushing, both of which are common items in most pool supply stores.

hj yes that was mentioned as a workaround in my original post I was just wondering if a one piece fitting exists.
