I have a large soaker tub that was installed with a cable drain. Once the tub is filled, if I turn the cable drain to open the drain, the weight of the water pushes it closed. I either have to hold it open, or pull the drain stopper out in order to completely drain the tub.
It was hard to find any information about this online. I looked at a diagram I did manage to find, and it seems obvious that the drain can't stay open because the cable just lifts an arm that lifts the drain, and there's nothing to lock it in place.
Am I missing something?

there should be an adjusting screw on the bottom of the stopper. it controls how high the stopper is pushed up.
too high and the stopper will not seal
too low and the stopper is pushed down as you are describing.
try lengthening the adjusting screw to allow maximun flow under the stopper when activated.
