Hi,

I am in Michigan and remodeling our master bath. The home's main waste line passes horizontally under this bathroom just before it exits the home. Because I am moving a toilet, shower, and vanity locations I want cut out about 10 feet of the main waste line and rebuild it with connections where they should be located for the new layout.

The situation, and questions:

* When I cut it out I was thinking of plugging it temporarily with an inflatable plug like this:

* My thought is that once plugged, I'd work back up to the upstream cut with the new PVC and connections where they should now be. Once I get to the upstream end I think I could place a cleanout right after the upstream cut and use that cleanout to pull the plug out.

Questions:

1. Is this a good plan, or is there a better way to handle the temp plugging and removal of the plug?

2. Is a cleanout placed in a horizontal run perhaps 8-10' upstream from the wall exit allowable (Michigan)?
