 New Water Heater
Author: mmahoney463 (MA)

I had a new water heater installed today. The plumbers helper was moving water heater on dolly and dropped it.
When it was unboxed it had a dent on the top cover. I’m concerned the glass liner cracked.
Is there a way to check it after it’s been installed? Should the plumber not installed it.
I’ve already paid for it. I sent him txt to ask but have not heard back.
Thanks for any input

the plumber should NOT have installed it

the liner is 'glass coated' but not actually glass as you think of it

the liner is probably OK

BUT

the dip tube may, or may not, be damaged

HOWEVER

you, as the customer, was 'prima facia' satisfied as proven by the payment

You, in fact, paid for and accepted a 'new' product AFTER you knew it was mishandled and damaged.

The contractor answered me and said the water heater is fine since it was protected with packing in box.
Im not a plumber and have no idea what a dip tube is. Is there any way tip tube can be checked?

My bad for accepting it, he was referred by a family member who he did work for in past
and spoke highly of them.

no one can tell if the heater sustained internal damage,

as a plumbing contractor, i wouldn't install that heater.

Mostly all water heaters come with a 6 year warranty from the manufacturer and normally a 1 year installation warranty

I would not worry. The dip tube is flexible and if it were damaged. you would only get a small amount of hot water before it went cold.

ditto packy

but

hj is 'probably' correct

it is a matter of personal pride on the part of the installer or his boss

? what is one's self esteem worth ?

@ OP: unfortuneately one must assume that 'many' people are in fact DIShonest and merely trying to separate you from as much cash as possible as quickly as possible

one must ascertain that a contractor is LICENSED - INSURED - (performance) BONDED

I would not lose any sleep over this. There's a good 4 inches of hard insulation between the outer jacket and the tank.

Thank you all for feedback. Much appreciated.
My old unit had cracked and was leaking terribly. The contractor had plumber
come out in one day, removed and installed new one.

Fingers crossed it’s ok. Water flow is good and hot!
