Hello Plumbers,

I have an American Standard 2 way In-Wall Diverter Valve. When I rotate the handle into position to use the shower wand, water drips from the diverter valve handle into the shower.

My question is, what parts do I need to purchase? There are a few kits (diverter repair kit, spring kit, etc.) listed on the manual linked below. Also, any tips on successfully completing this job would be very much appreciated.

The stem o-ring is what keeps the water from leaking out, so at the very least, that should to be replaced. You should disassemble the valve and check the condition of the stem, where the o-ring seals to it, to see if the stem is worn/pitted and also replace it if it is damaged.

Thanks for the information, that makes sense. I think I will buy the stem kit (which includes the O-ring and a stem) and the diverter valve repair kit (in case those seals are bad too).

Non-plumber here, is this a relatively easy repair?

the seat is in good condition

BUT

a bad seat will not cause a leak from the stem itself

put some plumbers grease on all the rings you are replacing.
