I have a new Rheem electric hybrid hot water tank. What can I do to decrease its noise?; it's very loud at times, other times quiet.

That defeats the purpose of having a heat exchanger.

But, I do not think they were asking how to avoid the sound and "breeze" of the hybrid system they just paid about $600.00+ extra for.

? is the new heater INSIDE the home ?

If so, the sound of the heat pump (ie. compressor and fan) is probably objectionable.

These 'hybrids' are more suited for a garage.

Just like having a fridge in your 'open concept' living space.

one of the selling points of a hybrid water heater is that it acts like a dehumidifier in damp basements.
yeah, you can actually (depending on conditions) get away without running a separate dehumidifier.

also, depending on size, they need a decent amount free air around them. they won't work if confined to a closet.

Basement = indoor swimming pool during a flood or sewage backup.

tank is inside basement of a house.

'loud' is subjective

if it is a true 'hybrid' aka heat pump type it WILL make compressor/fan/airflow/refrigerant type noise when the hybrid mode is operating to heat the water

BUT

it 'may' be operating outside the specs and need service and/or repair/adjustment

OR

it may have installed without the proper 'clearances'

you need an on-site visit from a licensed-insured-bonded installer to ascertain status

What would make new tank in electric mode by itself change back to hybrid?
