 Septic Alarm
Author: Barry959 (NY)

Have a three year old septic system where the effluent is pumped from the second tank and into a septic field. The septic alarm has been going off around two to three times a day for around 10 seconds and then shuts off. Had the system pumped and no water is coming from the house since I was worried about a plumbing issue in the house. I noticed that the alarm will go off whether the system is being used or hasn't been used for 8 hours. Anyone have an idea of what is causing this?

Have you opened up the effluent tank to check the physical position of the alarm float? It should be in the “down” position.

aren't there 2 floats?
one turns the pump on/off.
the other float triggers the alarm if the on/off float fails.

Two floats are there and both seem to work properly when I pull up on them. I called the guy who installed and he is coming tomorrow. The previous plumber I call didn't know what the problem was.

if the alarm keeps going on periodically and the alarm float is in the down position then i would suspect the float is faulty.
its a shame to start replacing parts without knowing for sure. but the float itself is not expensive and ya gotta start somewhere.

The float would be suspect. If not that, then a wiring problem. The alarm circuit is low volt.
