I need to remove an RO system and more specifically will remove the 1/4" drain tube from the horizontal drain, leaving, of course, a 1/4" hole. It of course has the typical saddle.

Any ideas to patch it? I'm trying not to replace the drain tube if I don't have to. I was actually going to try to put back the saddle, hole caulked with sealant, and saddle on the flat area.


Any thoughts would help!

Replace it it’s cheap enough whether it’s 17 gauge or plastic a patch on a tubular size pipe is ridiculous

instead of sealant, use a small piece of soft rubber. something similar to rubber roofing would be ideal

Didn’t realize we talking temporary fixes might as well just use duct tape

There is no reason to use any sealant or rubber if you do it right the first time

You can leave saddle in place and plug the inlet on the saddle.

Yes, changing the drain is the best but I just didn't want to take out the horizontal pipe, other pipes and possibly the disposal just to replace this, especially since the customer is talking about replacing the sink in a few months so they can start afresh with the drains at that time.


I think I'll do what I've don't done in the past...keep the saddle and tubing in place and install a shutoff valve (plastic one from RO system) on the end. Looks slightly funky but it'll work.
