Laundry Machine Draining Leaves Water on Floor
Author: KingConger (WI)

We moved into this house 6 months ago and kept the washer and dryer that were here. 2017 Whirlpool nice machines. We have had a problem when the laundry machine hits the drain cycle that water comes up and out of the pvc standpipe behind it. I have used a snake on the pipe and siphon, but I can't tell if the snake is getting all the way through the siphon. Should I be having this issue with water coming up and out of the standpipe? Where should I go from here?

There is a clog past the standpipe if all the piping can be seen from either a basement or crawl space you should determine the total length of drain and snake the drain accordingly, acid drain cleaners are not plumber recommended I’d say maybe use some if you know for a fact that all the drain piping in your house is pvc and not metal piping

Sometimes a clog isn’t just about buying the cheapest snake or drain cleaning equipment rather than call in a pro the hand snaking devices sold at the big box store are trash I’ve been given multiple of them by customers who tried them with no success they always end up in a dumpster

Is your washer drain 2 in or 1 1/2 in? Newer machines discharge at a higher rate than older machines and the old standard 1 1/2 cannot handle high flow.
I encountered this situation last week where my customer bought a new washer and the 1 1/2 drain could not handle the discharge and would back up. No easy way to upgrade to 2 in without tearing up the finished basement floor. So I ended up throttling the flow by inserting a piece of hose inside the end of the washing machine drain hose. Also increased the height of the standpipe. Eliminated the backup.
