 Water heater has burned wires

I went from having warm (not hot) water for a while to no hot water. GE water heater is less than a year old. Called for warranty info. They are sending heating elements and thermostats to replace. I went to disconnect the old parts and I found evidence of burning on the middle right connections. Do I still change out the thermostats?

If the thermostat terminals have been damaged by arcing from the previous poor connection, then yes.

AND have an electrician check and/or replace the burn wires.

? Did you send the pic to GE ?

I would not like to think that they would address this extreme fire hazard merely by sending new elements and stats unless said replacement(s) include new wiring.

You do realize that the wiring is imbedded in the foam insulation and can SELDOM be removed, much less replaced. I have NEVER heard of a manufact]urer sending replacement wiring.
