what is best way to do this faucet/hose valve replacement
Author: imcool (MI)

hi all,
these valves are leaking as usual after i dont know how long. TOP VALVE is for WASHER hose
I want to replace these valves with ball valve but i dont the best way to approach this problem.

please can you suggest whats the best way to do this and names of valves needed to be used.

not sure the about the size i should look for that hose to fit in? please help with washer fill hose size as well. I measured OD but I dont know the size they go by.

I also found this valve but not sure which threaded adapter to buy so I can solder that threaded adapter to copper pipe and then thread this valve on copper pipe soldered threaded adapter( ? )

thank you

The thread size is you standard garden hose size
The piping looks like 1/2” copper
The red valve is the shutoff valve looks like a stop and waste but I can’t tell
If you have experience soldering you can create the exact same setup you have now or if you prefer you can use push fittings to create the setup you have currently

I think most guys would solder a new shutoff valve then sweat on a female adapter and screw the new washing machine valve in

its hard to tell but if you can cut the red valve off and still have enough tubing to connect back to, one of these will slip right on and can be secured as well.
obviously the cut you make will need to be sparkling clean for the sharkbite to seal well.

why does it say female thread as well as solder. In the photo it looks only threaded for the copper pipe side but the customer care from dahl confirmed i can solder it as well, so can we solder threads into bare copper pipe?

the 1/2 copper tube will fit INSIDE the valve for soldering

it will be much easier to solder a Cu x (f)MPT adapter onto the copper and screw the new valve into THAT

not only easier but if you need to change that valve in the future, simply unscrew it and screw in a new valve.
