Can a fixture's inlet be an outlet for a vent?
Author: ArthurPeabody (NM)

Can I install, say, a Combination Wye & 1/8 Bend with Right Side Inlet sideways (the 3" diameter fittings being horizontal, the 2" inlet being vertical) and attach a vent pipe to the 'inlet'?

my code says a vent for a toilet can be 20 inches below the floor the toilet is set on.

How close can the vent be? How far away horizontally? I have a rear-discharge toilet; the drain is about the same height above the floor as the WC's outlet.

there is something in the code about a vent being too close to a trap. (got to do with air from the vent evaporating the trap seal)
i have never seen anything about a toilet vent and its proximity to the toilet outlet.

The minimum distance from trap to vent opening is 2 pipe diameters. Under the UPC, maximum is 6 feet and there is no maximum limit under the IPC.

Thanks. I know about the 2 diameters rule. My question was about the nature of an inlet, whether it can be used as an outlet for a vent instead.

Yes you can install a combo on its back with the branch sticking up to be used as a vent.
