What must a rear-discharge WC plumb to?
Author: ArthurPeabody (NM)

I drew some diagrams. If I attach a 45° bend directly to the drain (turned right), the center of the WC will be 7 inches from the west wall. To get 8 more inches I need to add about a foot of pipe between the drain and the bend. This will move the WC 17" from the south wall. With the WC's 30" length, 24" clearance, this leaves me 25" for the vanity. I already have a 30" vanity I can't return. Hmmm... a 12" drain sounds long. I'd need to lift it ¼"; it sounds like a bad idea.

Imagine instead that I attach the 45° bend turned left. Now the WC would have to be attached perpendicularly to the pipe. I assume I can't just attach it directly to a tee. How much bend or clearance or whatever is required?

How about some diagrams? You know what you are writing about, but we do not.

The drain is oriented 45° to the south (top of the picture) and west (right of the picture) walls. The middle of the face of the end of the drain is 6" from either wall, 8.5" diagonal from the corner. It's 3" diameter. The first picture shows a 45° elbow facing north - both attached directly and with a 12" extension; the second facing east.

In the second case, can I attach a wye with a ? bend directly to the 45° elbow, the toilet flange on the ? bend?
