How do you remove objects stuck inside rim? - foreign object stuck in toilet rim holes
Author: Jerry1 (NY)

In removing the upper parts of the flush valve from my American standard Champion toilet model 4266 (the gasket and o-ring on the piston need replacing), the piston dropped into the hole of the toilet TANK underneath the flush valve. I think it is lodged underneath the rim, but I have not been able to retrieve it using wire hangers - and I don't wish to remove the tank from the toilet to do so.

I've looked all over, but the only advice out there seems to be for objects dropped or flushed down the BOWL.

Advice? thank you.

you WILL need to remove the tank

you WILL need to remove the bowl from the flange

you WILL need to tip the bowl and shake it for GRAVITY to move the object back towards the hole INTO which it fell

you WILL need very very strong arms and/or a 'stand' to get to and see (using a dental mirror) into the upside down bowl's 'tank hole'

best of luck

You could try a powerful shop vac but it sounds like at the very least you will be removing the tank

the OP has (unfortuneately) already tried to 'wire it out'

so, it has 'probably' been pushed further in

the OP can try removing the tank and INSPECTING using a dental mirror and a good flashlight

IMO: after the OP wastes another full day 'twisting and squirming' the OP will probably purchase a new WC and THEN hire an actual plumber to install said cheapo WC
