I have a bathtub that fills up with water while taking a shower. I had a plumber come and look at it but he said the water is coming in faster than it can drain so there is nothing we can do.
Does this sound correct?

Often tub stoppages are caused by hair in the drain. Check to see if that is your problem.

Drain cover removal
Over the drain, place the plunger cup.
Fill the tub with water if it is empty so that the cup is submerged.
With both hands, grasp the handle.
Push and pull the plunger quickly for around 20 seconds.
To determine whether the clog has been cleared, pour a pail of water down the drain.

the overflow opening must be covered or else the air generated by the plunger is useless.
