 Mounting a tub/shower faucet with ¾" pipe or ½" S-pipes
Author: ArthurPeabody (NM)

I received a new faucet today. It's a European model, bought online.

It's made for ¾", comes with 2 2" pieces of ¾" straight brass pipe and 2 2" pieces of chromed ½" S-pipe (so they call it - I've never seen the word before.) The S-pipe is a ¾" to ½" adaptor but not concentric - the ½" is offset so 1 side is parallel with the ¾". The instructions that come with it make no mention of the ¾"; the instructions on the online supplier's website say to discard the S-pipes, that they're for Europe, to use the ¾".

I've plumbed the bathroom in ½"; I'll have to use an adaptor if I use the ¾" - a small matter considering the scale of the remodel. I don't mind. I'm curious as to why the American instructions tell me not to.

Is there something wrong?

the little offset nipples are meant to help you if your rough in is off slightly.
without them you need to be perfect center to center and also perfectly level with the wall mount elbows.
i have no idea why they are larger size??
