Movin' on up - My new office has a restroom. Unfortunately all of the plumbing has been decommissioned, so there are a bunch of useless stubs and caps sticking out from the tile where I want to put some storage shelving, cabinets, etc.

The yellow plug here is inside what appears to be a 4" pipe nipple screwed into the carrier. If I found a big enough wrench, would it be possible to unthread that and put in a 4" flat plug? Would it be practical? Or more realistic to sawzall the thing and chisel it out?

Or?

I already removed the 4 threaded rods shown in this photo. This was built around 1982.

be prepared to notch and chisel

a brass flush plug 'should' work

just cut the nipple flush with the fitting.
use that plug with a regular hex nut rather than the wing nut.
tighten it well and cut off any excess bolt threads.

IF, repeat IF, the rubber expansion will remain EXPOSED that will 'work'.

But, you may NOT, repeat NOT, leave a temporary rubber expansion test plug in a concealed location.

just cover it with a 12-15 dollar access panel.

Just extend the nipple and make it a waterless urinal.

You'll thank me later.

While an access panel will make the plug ACCESSIBLE it would still be concealed, therefor NON compliant.

A 'cheat' would be to use a PVC flush plug a/k/a clean-out plug instead of a metallic plug.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

I looked around the shop for a 48" wrench for a few minutes before just deciding to use the sawzall. What I didn't realize was that the fitting is PLASTIC and the blade went thru it like buttah.

Now I need to get a plug: DWV? or S&D? I have not worked with a carrier before.

It is done. Flush plug and a piece of plywood roughly 16" x 18".





Unfortunately the waterless urinal would probably not be a good idea. I doubt the pipe is connected to anything on the low end, and I am pretty sure the vents were all removed when the roof was replaced years ago.

End result looks nice and clean.

well, the plywood ain't gonna fall off.. that's for sure. hahaha

I suggest adding a sticker to the plywood.
