Shopping online introduced me to dezincification and DZR - 'dezincification resistant' - brass, that non-DZR fittings shouldn't be used in hard (high mineral or sulfur content) water. I haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere. Brass is made with copper and zinc (and, possibly, other elements). It appears as if it can be made vulnerable to having the zinc leached out of it - or not. It's odd I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere. Should I expect fittings in which it goes unmentioned to be non-DZR?
What's the consequence of dezincified brass? Does it become just copper, thus soft, or weaker, or pitted, or having holes worn in it? A neighbor found pinhole leaks in her copper pipes recently. I've heard plumbers comment on the deterioration of copper from our city's water
