I am having a few issues with my water and would like to add a whole house filter (not sure which one yet). I'm on a well and my pump house is about 200 feet away from the house. I am currently using a jet pump which has 1 1/4 inlet/outlet pvc pipe which continues all the way to the house. It appears most of the filters available all have a 1 inch inlet and outlet fittings. Due to freezing conditions my only real choice is to install this filter in the pump house. So the question is, What will change (if anything) going from 1 1/4 to 1 inch and then back to 1 1/4 pipe starting at the pump house?

Don’t think the pipe sizing will affect much, if anything the filter itself may slow velocity and or pressure

you want a 1-1/2" pentair 'big blue' filter housing
they accept 4.5" diameter filters either 10" or 20" long
OR
2 'standard size' in parallel

(not sure which one yet)..
you need to take a sample of your water to a testing facility to find out just what you need to remove from your water.
simply adding a dirt/rust/odor filter is not helpful if there is something else present that must be removed.
once you know then proceed to choose..
as my friend from SC points out, there are larger filters available.
