I have a push/pull diverter in the wall that leaks Out through the stem. I have been unsuccessful in losening what I think is the packing that screws into the valve body.
I am using a shower faucet socket size 27/32 that reaches the hexagonal portion from outside the wall. I soaked the valve body in Blaster penetration oil overnight.

The problem is I can't budge it counter clock wise. The socket skips off and rounds the points of the nuts .

I'm thinking I may have to remove wall tile ( don't want to go in through backside of wall). I can't find any sort of decorative plate I could use to cover a large hole in the tile though. Maybe I don't know what these are Called. Or maybe there's a smarter way to approach a Plutone patch job without having to retile the whole thing. One crazy idea would be to embrace the carnage and just put in broken colored tiles in a sort of raku random mosaic. But I bet a metal plate for this exists

I think they call what you are looking for an escutcheon plate.

I am usually able to remove stuck packing nuts.

Shower sockets are not meant for applying high torque. You need a proper mechanics' socket and a ratchet to drive it. The correct size needed might be 13/16 in. You need a 6 point socket, not 12 point.

Heat up the nut with a heat gun or, very carefully, with a propane torch. Apply penetrating fluid, repeat heat and fluid a number of times. The nut should come off.
