I have a galvanized nipple for a tub spout that is leaking right by where it screws into the elbow in the wall which goes to the tub valve.
what are the chances that will unscrew from the elbow? eazy-out or internal pipe wrench? too short to grab onto it with a pipe wrench.
if it wont budge, then i have to try to remove the galvanized pipe which leads up to the sower valve?

Use a pair of 10” channel locks and little torque it shouldn’t be that hard as long as you spin counterclockwise

If the nipple is protruding too little to allow a pipe wrench to grab onto it, then try an internal pipe wrench, and use a pipe wrench on the internal pipe wrench's handle. I think someone said directing heat to the joint behind the wall might help, it you can direct a blow torch into the nipple to heat the joint from the inside, then the internal pipe wrench may have a better shot?

If the backside of this shower is a sheet rock wall open it up and do the work from the back side.
(if the wrench and nipple extractor tool fail).

I have a much more pessimistic view of the 10 in channellocks working, especially if the nipple screws into a steel elbow.
Chances are that the job will involve opening up the wall, preferably from the backside.
