Frequently, replacing the flapper does not always result in a completely leak free seal. This is after ensuring that the flush valve seat is smooth and not damaged. Today I replaced the disc on the tilt disc mechanism in a American Standard Plaza toilet. There was enough water leaking by to trigger the Fluidmaster 400 fill to refill about every 15 mins.
Happens with the Korky 2001 3.5 gal flapper also, amongst other flappers.
My question is - does the performance improve with time? In other words, does the leak gradually diminish over a few days as the flapper molds/conforms to the seat? Do I discard the flappers that leak initially and keep fitting new ones till I find one which seals 100%?

try American Standard OEM part(s)
no, the seal does NOT improve with time (unless the flapper was warped when installed, then, maayyyybe)

Maybe time for a new more water efficient toilet
Today’s toilets flush just as well as the 3.5 using half the amount of water
