 Single handle shower cartridge replace
Author: burntwoods (OR)

Need help please. Photo shows how the renter left this, trying to replace the cartridge for no cold water. [not able to upload a photo... the front of the cartridge is chipped away well below the valve front] No way the cartridge is coming out the front. The valve is sweated in. How do I proceed from here? Cut out the wall in the back hoping to somehow push it out from behind? Please advise. Thank you.

no photo

BUT

drill into the cartridge

use an 'easy out' to either unscrew cartridge

or

twist it and yank it out

OR

call an actual PLUMBER

A picture or manufacturer name would really help to define how the cartridge is removed

DO NOT 'drill, cut, or chop, into the cartridge until you know EXACTLY what is needed. but, if that is what you think is needed, absoluteley call a plumber because that is NOT how we would repair it.

if the cartridge is 'chipped away' at the front and the 'remains' are recessed in the valve body and can not be 'grabbed' by pliers for removal

THEN

an 'easy-out' is called for

however, a photo would be VERY helpful

Thank you for that! I think I figured out how to attach the photo...

Hard to tell from the photo, but if the ring that I indicated in this picture is chrome or brass plated, it is a retainer collar and will unscrew to allow the cartridge to be removed.

Time for a real (licensed, bonded, insured) plumber.

Send the bill to the tenant or the person who cut the valve body.
