 Shower drain leaking
Author: YT (CA)

There is water leakage from our shower drain, small and slowly, we had the plumber inspect and he said it’s not pipe issue, and we need to find a contractor to replace the drain piece. While we are waiting for the contractor, it’s been six days that we haven’t used the shower room, but it keeps dripping, one drip in a couple of mins. Any idea of where the water comes from if it’s not from the pan or pipe? Is it necessary to remove the tiles to replace the drain? Thanks

If the leak is continuous and gas not been used in 6 days as you stated the leak may be a water supply line leaking onto the floor and showing up around the drain

Regardless a leaking shower drain is part of most plumbers job description to fix

Call a different more reputable plumber

it is necessary to remove the tiles to replace an improperly installed shower drain 'body'

as in: improperly installed membrane / drain assembly

proper code compliant trouble free installation:

I don't think I've ever seen pea gravel at the weep holes but seems like a good idea if the size is right.
Not sure I have seen anything at the weep holes but wasn't really looking or having the opportunity to inspect for this. I have seen weep holes clogged with grout or mortar.
Something else to learn about a proper shower install.
Seems like tile guy / pan liner guy has much more work than plumber.
Although a drain can be tricky and sometimes the shower valve.
