IS A BACKFLOW DEVICE NEEDED FOR HYDRANT
Author: JBARROWS85 (MA)

HYPOTHETICAL: 6" DOMESTIC WATER LINE GOING INTO A RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY. WATER METER IS IN A VAULT. THE WATER LINE THEN GOES TO A HYDRANT THAT WILL BE USED FOR WASHING DOWN MACHINARY. DOES THERE NEED TO BE A BACKFLOW DEVICE AFTER THE METER? IF SO, CAN IT BE IN THE VAULT?

A 6" main suggests a COMMERCIAL multiple dwelling residential property.

Even if an incorporated HOA it IS a commercial multiple dwelling residential property.

An RPZ is most likely REQUIRED.

Said RPZ may NOT be in a below grade vault.

If the hydrant can/will have a hose attached to it, then it does need an anti siphon/backflow preventer By definition said device must by positioned a minimum of 12" ABOVE the ground level.
