Should a shower P-trap and drain pipe be anchored or secured?
Author: icheng2022 (OR)

Had to tear down a recently remodeled tile shower due to improper waterproofing
The plumber I hired did not center the valve or the showerhead , the drain flange can be lifted 2 inches above the subfloor, is that normal? I am going to call the plumber back to center the valve and shower head, should I ask him to anchor or secure the drain pipe too? I need to know what is the proper method to secure a drain pipe
Because I cannot trust this plumber to do the right thing. Please advice!

? permit ?

? final inspection ?

? licensed bonded insured plumber ?

wherher anchored or not a properly installed tile shower drain will NOT move as it is clamped to the membrane which is embedded UNDER the pitched mortar base of the tile

however, to quote Forest Gump, 'cheap is as cheap does'

Some drains come with holes to screw to the floor others do not

Gravity does not lift things up in order to secure the piping from the drain the ceiling below or subfloor will have to be removed

Bern is correct the pre gauge mortar should hold the drain in place and the panning material will hold everything together

Also you have posted several times about this shower and how you think these contractors are doing the work improperly so it’s time to get PERMITS and a rough/ final inspection
