Compression fitting for black pipe gas line?
Author: Don411 (IN)

I saw this a while back and snapped a photo, I've been meaning to post here and see if anyone knows what this is. I was waiting outside the local RV dealership for the salesman and happened to be standing by the gas meter. This is a big building so looked like a 1-1/2" pipe from the meter going into the building. But what is that elbow connector? I've never seen anything like that used for black pipe.

That orange fitting on the left side of the photo connects to the gas meter, and you can see the threads and the blue thread sealant. the elbow had no visible threads or sealant, almost looks like a sharkbite connector for black pipe, but that's not possible because the exterior of black pipe is not smooth enough for an O-ring to seal. Is this some kind of crimp fitting?

For black iron in general, not just gas.

No Kidding?! I didn't realize they made a ProPress series for black pipe.

I can see this being a huge timesaver vs. threading for pros that do a lot of work with black pipe. Not a DIY given the cost of the tools though.

Thanks guys!
