 PEX-B on Poly-B fittings
Author: JImbob568 (OR)

Hey all,

I am a DIY guy in the middle of changing my home from 1994 Poly-B pipe to PEX-A. I opened up the back of the tub/shower wall and found a valve that was all solder joints. So, there's Poly-B fittings soldered to the valve.
I had planned for threaded connectors. I read one blog that you CANNOT use PEX fittings with Poly Pipe, but it is OK to use PEX pipe on Poly-B fittings. Do you agree? I doubt that it would work with expansion PEX-A, but maybe Pex-B with the stainless compression clamp? If so, I should be able to remove the crimp ring, slide the Poly off, then clamp a PEX pipe to it. That would save a ton of work. I have uised PEX-A throughout the project but could live with a couple compressions clamps with the amount of work it would save.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Jim

Delta and others make new and affordable valves with 1/2" expansion adapters built right in.
I would suggest a new valve and new trim.
