 2" Kitchen Sink Drain Pipe
Author: CryptRocket (OH)

Our garbage disposal bit the dust and I bought a new insinkerator to replace it yesterday. I've replaced one before, I know next to nothing about plumbing, but these are not a big deal. The pvc trap was pretty nasty, so I planned on replacing that as well and bought a new one. When I got everything taken apart I was shocked to find the new trap didn't fit at the drain/out pipe. Sure enough, the pipe going back into the wall is 2" instead of 1.5". I thought that was odd, and now I find it extremely odd because I can't find a replacement for this trap anywhere.

The outlet pipe has a male threaded end. The original trap was somehow a 2" x 1.5". Have you guys ever heard of this, and more importantly know where I can find a replacement? Everything I can find is just 1.5" on both ends. I also tried to find some kind of adapter (reducer?) maybe, to convert the end of the pipe from 2" to 1.5", but I can't seem to find anything that has a female threaded 2" to a 1.5" (male or slip, I guess).

House was built around 1970 and over last 13 years I've lived here I continue to find things that are out of spec/make no sense. Thanks for the help.

You will need a 2" trap.

You will also need a 2" X 1-1/2" slip nut and the appropriate 2 x 1-1/2 washer for the inlet.

IF you can find that slip nut and washer, use it to connect YOUR 1 1/2" trap to the pipe

Ah, ok! Think I found it here: [sloanrepair.com]

That makes sense, so that's essentially like the "adapter" I was looking for with a 2" thread opening and 1.5" on the other end. I tried googling for something like that over and over. Thanks for the help!
