Installed new flush valve in toilet tank but will not stop leaking around the threads. Tried pipe dope and teflon on threads but will not stop dripping. Have installed many over the years but have never had this persistant problem. Even tried more than one flush valve.

Crack in the tank?
Did you clean the scum from around the hole before installing the new flush valve?
The rubber gasket at the bottom of the flush valve is the seal try a little pipe dope on it (not the tank to bowl gasket)

Nether the flush valve OR the fill valve depend on the "thread" for leak proofing, so it is useless to put ANYTHING on the threads. They BOTH rely on the gaskets to seal so if something is leaking, either you installed them incorrectly or something is cracked.
