Looking into replacing a Weil-McLain boiler, model A-B-468. Boiler with house when we moved in in 2007. Converted from oil to natural gas around 2008–2009. Northern VT, but we don't run the heat much with wood stove. House square footage = 2272, built in 1966, four zones.

I am inclined to go with a newer, higher efficiency Weil-McLain or some other no-frills unit but want to do due diligence to make sure I'm not missing something. A neighbor recently installed a Baxi and is pleased with it. Thanks for any input/advice.

since your fuel is natural gas, i think you would be doing yourself a dis-service if you didn't look into a combi unit.
heat and hot water in one unit.
especially since you rely on wood heat most of the time.
local utilities (at least here in mass) offer huge rebates for high efficient units.

Thanks, Packy. Our current boiler has internal coils (cleaned out of gunk maybe 8 years ago). The baseboard heat and hot water are both heated by the boiler. There is no separate water tank. Is that what you mean by a combi unit?

i don't know what you have in VT but in MA there is a 2750.00 rebate for effecient heating equptment.
