Minor leak water service before inside meter...can't fix
Author: psujoe74 (PA)

Someone must have bumped the plumbing. Minor leak in line before first fitting. That length of pipe 2 inches at most. Tried electrical taping the pipe and fitting and drip moved forward to meter, so the tape didn't work.
I wonder if inside thread on fitting cracked ?
Tried silicone tape over pipe and fitting and water leak moved forward. Tried JB water weld. Product wouldn't cure fast because line was moist and not an instant stop in pipe or fitting thread.
I know the leak has to be in that 2 inch pipe or fitting.
Just thought, a crack in the fitting that I can't see.

Anyone have any suggestions. Bad back, etc and can't see underside if pipe or fitting

Call the water company and have them shut the water off then you can unscrew the meter and associated fittings before then replace the faulty fitting or pipe then have the water company turn the water back on or it would be easier to call a plumber and leave it in their hands and yes it is entirely possible the brass fitting is cracked there is no real quick fix I.e epoxy or tape

Since ANY leak before the meter does not register, and thus not charged for, that is usually the responsibility of the water company. Call them.

around here we own from the curb stop into the house.
the town owns the meter and only the meter.

In other words, it the main before the meter leaks, you can ignore it and let it leak for months, or years, since YOU are not paying for the water?

if one is so inclined, then the answer is yes.

i actuality, the money the town saves by not paying for the repair/replacement of leaks more than covers any cost for leaking water.
yeah, if the water is bubbling up at the property line, the homeowner is responsible.

i did a job last year at a church in the next town.
the leak was coming thru the wall at the floor level.
they had to hire a company with a backhoe, 2 police men etc.
it cost then thousands. the city was good to them and had public works repave the section of street.

Thanks all. Saw a youtube video yesterday where the threads were 'shot' in a fitting.

Somehow I imagined an entire new line, which I believe would be my responsibility, from the main to the meter.

Thanks for directing me to proper fix..shut off water and replace fittings..I'll use a plumber.
