Given those are your two options (soldering is out) which would you choose and why? Thanks!

definitely compression fittings. a sharkbite has an o-ring that sooner or later may give u problems. some people have used sharkbites with no issues while others got screwed big time by them. proper installation is crucial on both.

Neither is ideal solution, and each has advantages and disadvantages, depending on what and, and where the installation is being done.

Copper or pex? I have always soldered copper, I never had any luck getting compression fittings to seal properly. I recently relocated the kitchen sink as part of a remodel and used pex with sharkbite fittings for the first time (well, 2nd time, I used them in the camper remodel last year)...

The key with sharkbites is to be sure that the you chamfer the end of the tubing (copper or pex) so that there are no sharp edges to snag the O-ring inside the fitting. Be sure there are no scratches or nicks in the tubing that would interfere with the Oring seal. In fact I had shutoffs installed in the kitchen for a temp sink, and when the cabinets went it I was able to remove the sharkbite shutoffs and re-install them after passing the pipes thru the cabinet.

Sharkbites have been around 15+ years and are now code compliant for in-wall use, so I have no reason not to trust them. As was said, no matter what connection use use, proper installation is key.

Propress all the way. Sharks are ok for a temporary repair.
