 What fitting to I need?
Author: RR60 (VA)

Need to order this online and not sure what to lookup.

Have a extra standard shutoff valve under sink. So I guess is 3/8" male threads to connect to.

Need to attach a 1/4" icemaker copper line.

I have had a brass adaptor fitting on there for years. Fitting is leaking. Confirmed this is the leak. Not the valve stem.

Brass fitting looks fine but is a very slight leak I cant get rid off.

Tried even adding a oring inside and plumbers putty. Made it slow down but still a leak.

thanks

Your description is not good enough for us to make a recommendation. Need a photo.

probably need a 3/8 x 1/4 compression coupling/union and a short piece of 3/8 OD Cu tube

BUT

probably 'best' to change the angle stop to 1/4 OD outlet type

So not really any adapter to change a 3/8" angle stop that converts it to a 1/4"

Thanks everyone.

What Packy post is exactly what I need.

Last question. When connecting to the angle stop. Do I need tape or pipe dope?

if it's a compression seal with a ferule or a washer you shouldn't need any.

so, grease the threads on the valve so the washer won't deform when you tightening it.
tighten it until you can feel the washer compressing.
remember you can always tweak it a little after turning the water on if you need to.
