 Turning off main water supply

If I leave my house for an extended period (a month or more), are there any negative repercussions to turning off the main water supply, for things like my water softener, water heater, etc?

Shutting off the water main is a good thing. You can set your water heater control to vacation. Call the people that service your water softener and ask then about the unit and what you should do. Good luck.

If you're going to be gone for much over a month, make arrangements for someone to check in from time to time. I had a friend that didn't -- when his ice-maker hose broke the insurance wouldn't cover the damage.

It's not recommended for Tankless Water Heaters, but the funny thing is its not recommended you go extended periods of time not running it either since mold can build up in it so.....
