 Draining fire hydrants
Author: sum (FL)

All the fire hydrants near my house are draining.

They connected a 3/4" pipe to each hydrant outlet, put a "OUT OF SERVICE" tag on them, then let the water out.

I think within 3 blocks each direction all the hydrants are doing this, they have been draining like this for over a week non-stop.

Are they trying to empty the giant water tank to service it?

It looks that way Sum. The Pyromaniacs in your neighbor must be drooling from the mouth.

nope

they would merely need to turn off the supply pump to the tank

my guess:

they are relieving pressure LOCALLY to make a repair

@sum: do y'all still have water ?

if yes, then i'm clueless UNLESS the fire mains are SEPARATE from the domestic water

I still have water and pressure is good.

If they are trying to relieve pressure, why are they doing it for over a week?
