 Outdoor hydrant won't shut off
Author: drwob (MD)

Hello -

I've replaced the stem on my Prier hydrant, and it still turns beyond the point where the water should shut off. Almost feels like stripped threads - gets to a certain point, and the water flow slows down, but just a LITTLE additional pressure, to try to get it to stop completely, and it slips and we're back to full flow. In addition, at that point the stem and handle move outward, away from the wall.

Given that the stem is new, I think any problems with that should be eliminated, but is it possible the threads inside the pipe are stripped? I'm the original owner of the house, and I don't recall that I've ever turned this handle excessively hard, but I can't think what else could be going on.

Any advice appreciated.

Could be stripped. I would replace it with an old fashioned sill cock, we replace more ff hose bibs every year compared to the good ol sill cock
