 constant flow outdoor faucet
Author: Doug Lassiter (OK)

It is frustrating to set the flow on my outdoor faucet to get a sprinkler sprinkling right, and I come back twenty minutes later, and the flow has dropped by half. I adjust it, and then come back later and AGAIN, the flow rate has changed dramatically.

OK, I need a new faucet. Can someone provide some guidance as to what KIND of faucet offers reasonably constant flow? Without this guidance, I'm just going to get another that does the same thing.

It is possible the only problem is a loose washer. If you want a valve better than what you have we need to know what you have. Post a picture.

How about a quarter sill cock

Not entirely obvious that a quarter-turn valve allows convenient regulation of the flow. Pretty much either on, or off. I want to be able to adjust the flow, and keep that flow constant.

good luck - you want an industrial type flow regulator - iow: a pressure regulating valve

BUT

said valve can NOT increase pressure if the supply drops

Well, the issue is that most of my (cheap) outdoor faucets work very well in this way. You set them to get a certain flow rate, and they stay that way until you readjust them. This ONE faucet does not. The question is whether it is a property of this kind of faucet, and another kind of faucet would do better, or if it is a defect in the faucet itself that can be fixed.

weeeeelllll, rebuild the faucet with a new washer and packing and see if that 'does the trick'

assuming it is the SAME type as the ones that you state work well
