 Underground Waste Pipe Materials
Author: imfotp (SC)

Local code lists the following as suitable for underground waste pipe...

Material: Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic pipe in IPS diameters, including Schedule 40, DR 22(PS 200) and DR 24 (PS 140); with a solid, cellular core or composite wall

STANDARDS: ASTM D 2665; ASTM F 891; ASTM F 1488; CSA B181.2

Question I'm struggling with is does typical 4" PVC DWV pipe meet this code? PVC DWV pipe isn't necessarily a type of Sch 40 is it?

No. There are many grades of PVC pipe, most of them thinner than sch.40. Some are approved for DWV underground, but I would NOT use them.

So what would you use, only Schedule 40? 4" Sch 40 fittings are very tough to find right now.

Yes schedule 40 pvc with sanitary pvc fittings some states still allow schedule 40 abs as well but pvc is way better, sdr pipe is for underground outside the residence

REgardless of the pipe, unless it is the green DSR, the fittings are all the same.
