Water department tells me they are changing batteries on water meter and they need to send some clowns out to replace it. They said they didnt get a reading. With the pandemic and all, I dont want these jokers in my house.

IF they don't change it, you will get an estimated bill until it is, and then, you will get the "real bill" for any differences, which could be substantial, since the meter is still recording but not sending the report.

i figured those batteries would last 20 years. I dont recall ever having to get a water meter battery replaced.

I would have told them to go pound sand if this was some sort of preventive maintenance program or something.

TWENTY YEARS? Even fire/smoke detector batteries, which are basically "passive" should be changed every ten years, (a pacemaker battery, which is more like you meter's only lasts 10 years).

So I wonder, do most utilities replace the battery or just swap out the whole meter when this happens?

you seem to have some real resentment towards your water utility.

what happened? are you not satisfied with the water or the costs?

calling their employees clowns and jokers who follow orders from above doesn't make sense.

I bet i got an older meter when they replaced it because those batteries are supposed to last 20 years.
