Hello, I had a leak in my exterior wall coming out from the weep screed? Which is adjacent to my kitchen sink, so after getting advice from this board, I had the wall opened up and it turns out a portion of the cleanout pipe is cracked. Not sure how, but a tech is guessing something hit the cleanout pipe and cracked the pipe in the wall. I had a few techs come out and one says my foundation has to be ripped up to fix the pipe properly and another says they can just repair the broken portion since the crack doesn’t go beyond the joint, but the estimates are pretty up there, too. Since the costs are similar, which type of repair is better? Would appreciate the thoughts and advice of seasoned professionals, thank you!

If the pipe is not broken under slab don't break up the slab, honestly if the prices are that similar and one job includes breaking concrete and patching someone's prices are way off get a 3rd opinion

exactly9. I would just cut the bad section out and replace it. I have done it MANY times. The biggest cost is usually repairing the wall.

the proper repair involves chipping/chopping away a part of the foundation 'wall' above grade


so, while technically, 'chopping up the foundation' is correct there is no need to chop below ground or 'repair the foundation' as there will be only minor enlargement of the existing penetration


just have it fixed and the wall repaired


BUT


if you can see the work afterwards it has NOT been repaired but merely patched
